Juicing for weight loss is one way you can lose pounds. You can call this method a pretty natural way to lose weight but how does it work? And is it effective enough? I have a few friends who have been telling me that they have been getting good results with their weight control not only by drinking juice but also drinking the right kind of juice. Most people who attempt to lose weight through weight loss give up quickly simply because they don’t understand the principles behind it.
What Research Has Shown
We all have daily nutritional requirements. If our diet does not meet our daily nutritional requirements then we will have certain cravings for it. Think of it as trying to get a fix for your hunger or a fix to satisfy that portion of your diet.
According to a recent study carried out by the Harvard School of Public Health, drinking certain vegetables and fruits can help boost metabolism, meet your daily required servings of fruits and vegetables but also help you lose weight. This research has proven that drinking juice creates a calorie deficit, hence resulting in weight lost over a period of time. Remember that weight loss is centered on the basis of calorie deficits and this deficit must be more than your calorie intake per day.
But what sort of vegetables help you lose weight? We shall see below.
Choices of Vegetables to Help You Lose Weight
Even if you are not the kind who like to eat cooked vegetables, drinking two servings of juice is enough to meet your daily vegetable requirements and help promote weight loss. After all, cooking destroys up to 85% of the nutritional content in your vegetables making it low yield for your bodily needs. Fresh vegetable juice contains big amounts of vitamins, trace elements, minerals, some proteins and enzymes that aid digestion and various bodily processes. A lack of them can cause lethargy and low mood.

- Chopped celery
- Garlic chopped
- Onion, sliced or chopped
- Fresh tomatoes
Put all of them in a vegetable juice or just an ordinary juicer to get your glass of vegetable juice.

Choices of Fruits to Help You Lose Weight
There has been a lot of talk about how grapefruit juice can facilitate weight loss and boost metabolism. Thankfully, this isn’t hype but recent studies have shown that it actually works. However, the exact mechanism in which grapefruit helps weight loss has not been properly understood.
So why does it work? Well… grapefruit juice is a low carb, moderate protein diet that gives you that satiated feeling despite being low in calories. Most grapefruit diets have low 800-1000 calories in a standard glass of juice.
It also contains high amounts of fibre which explains the “full” feeling and also reduces the need to satisfy your hunger despite it being a low calorie diet. A study conducted in Florida has shown that on average people lose 3 pounds over a period of 12 weeks. Some even lose 10 pounds. But participants in the study quickly gained weight as soon as they stop the grapefruit diet.
The other beneficial thing about grapefruit juice is the low glycaemic index which helps reduce the release of insulin and hence consume less calories.

- Breakfast – 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, black coffee, 1/2 grapefruit or 8 ounces grapefruit juice (Ref: WEbMD)
Other Fruits and Weight Loss
Of course you can try other types of fruits to help with weight loss. Apple juice does help with weight loss as it has high fibre content and low calories. Not a fan of apple? You can try many other types of fruits to help with weight loss. Generally, most fruits can help with weight loss whether or not you drink them as juice or eat them as a fruit.
What About Smoothies?
According to a recent article on Mayo Clinic, drinking smoothies is the best choice for people who want to go on a diet and lose weight. Whole fruits contain lots of fibre and water. Drinking them creates bulk and fills your stomach. This high fibre containing smoothie is also low calorie but it makes you feel full. On top of that, most smoothies are delicious so why not make on with your very own juicer?
